Achievements

I am thankful that the girls are not only able to be challenged academically at their school (by participating in competitions with other schools) but they are also encouraged at a young age to support Missions all over the world. At my old public school where I taught, our fundraisers were for new computers for the lab, new PE equipment or new tables for the cafeteria. All are great causes but it was for the school. At CCS, this year's fundraiser was for an organization such as Danny and Friends (organization in India for disabled children) or sending money from collecting recycled bottles to help rebuild schools in the Philippines that were destroyed by the floods (that was last year). Now it doesn't mean that private schools do not need any extra funds because they desperately do! Tuition fees do not cover it, let me tell you! Coming from teaching public schools, I personally think they were more well off monetary-wise even with all the budget cuts since money still flow from the district and state to purchase new curriculum, new technology and of course pay the salaries. If the toilets or AC need to be replaced, they do it. At a private school, that extra expense comes from their general fund. It's kind of like us having an unexpected expense such as a car repair or house repair that we did not save up for in the 'emergency' fund. And with enrollment dropping due to the economy, a private school's purse strings can be very tight!

Hannah participated in her first Trik-A-Thon today for her 1st grade class' Mission's fundraiser. She rode 12 laps! Thank you everyone for sponsoring her! In total, Hannah raised $98 for disabled kids in India.



In other news, a couple of weekends ago, Emily got a 5th place ribbon in the ACSI Math Olympics 4th grade in Mathematical Reasoning! There were 14 kids competing in this section and only 5 get ribbons.

3 Ethans and 2 Emily's placed in 4th grade reasoning... Crazy!! Our Emily was the only one from CCS though from 4th. A total of six schools participated; 175 students competed and only 37 get ribbons. CCS received 9 ribbons so I think we did well.. much better than last year for sure! Emily was so happy!! Her first ribbon! She competed last year but did not ribbon so she was thrilled this year!
