I'm not much of a music person. I rarely listened to music when I was a teenager. I always needed silence when I was studying. I couldn't understand how my friends could study and concentrate when listening to music. I wasn't into dancing and the only dance I went to in high school was the Senior Prom. And that's because I didn't want to say I never went to my Senior Prom.
In college, I went to more dances just to be social. The first concert I went to was to see Bryan Adams. Personally I wasn't a big fan but my friend Tom was. We went when we were at CAL. Eventually I started to like the same music Tom liked. Actually most of the concerts I went to I went with Tom: Depeche Mode, New Order, Bryan Adams (again, Tom loved him) Huey Lewis and the News. I even saw Kenny G.
When Matthew and I were dating we went to see New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Book of Love, Janet Jackson and Debbie Gibson. I even bought a Backstreet Boys CD when we were vacationing in Hong Kong BEFORE they became popular here in the States.
Pentatonix were the winners of Season 3 NBC's The Sing-Off. They are an acapella group that do not use any instruments or equipment to
accompany nor enhance their songs.
I absolutely love them. And pretty much just listen to them exclusively. When I heard they were coming to the Bay Area on a concert tour I TOTALLY wanted to go. Matthew generously bought all four of us tickets as my Christmas present. It'll be my first concert in like 20 years and the girls first concert as a family.
Apparently we weren't the only ones excited to go. My friends' Dave & Susana's oldest daughter, Caris May, a senior in high school also went with her school friends AND we bumped into the Kim's, Steve and Linda with their daughter too.
We got balcony seats. I would have wanted to be closer but I didn't want to stand the whole time. Apparently they have standing room only 'places' not seats because there is none which can bring you closer to the performers but truthfully, I'm too old to stand through a whole concert. Although when I was younger we had seats but we never sat because everyone was dancing with the music that you stood the whole time.
They sounded incredible. Just like their videos. The acoustics in the theater were perfect.
It's still amazing to see that they made such beautiful powerful music with no instruments.
These 5 young performers who won a singing competition just using their voices have also won their first GRAMMY this year for their arrangement of Daft Punk.
They sang 13 songs in the 90 min set. It went by so fast!
It was so memorable and I would totally see them again if they came back to the Bay Area. Next time I'll even do a Meet & Greet with them! I think my friend Teresa (below ) would come join me! She came with her family too.
