Spirit

I rarely showcased my 'spirit' in high school not because I didn't want to but because I wasn't very creative nor I had the 'resources' to get what I needed.

Emily's sophomore year Spirit Week was this past week and of course we planned the Sunday before it started since she wasn't sure if she wanted to participate. So thankful for friends and neighbors who have children that are in high school to borrow clothing from. Borrowing is so much better than buying!!

Can you guess the themes below?
Clockwise from Top: Western, Animal, Fashion Disaster, Pirate
Hannah hasn't had any Spirit Days at her private school yet but for Halloween she's been planning this costume for months!

She is "Oona" from one of her favorite TV shows, Odd Squad on PBS. Apparently she is an Odd Squad scientist.

I had to order the lab coat from a medical supply website, purchase the uniform pants from Old Navy and suspenders from a Halloween store while Emily created her bowtie and belt from green fabric. Hannah made her badge, buckle and gadget (not seen) herself.
Oona with her cousin, Officer Sam
She had great fun in putting together this costume. She's already thinking about next year... sigh...

Happy Halloween!

The girls have Spirit Day today. Wear Black and Orange. Since they don't have any Giants gear, we opted for an orange shirt and black pants.

This evening, I will give out these candies to trick-or-treaters.
Yep... that's right... FULL-SIZE candy bars. I've been doing this for a few years now. It helps me count how many kids have come to the house. Everyone gets one bar.

Last year I gave out 150. After my last bar was gone, I had to shut down distribution. (yes there were still kids coming.)

If you come to my house tonight and say 200 to me, I'll give you a special treat!

Happy Candy Day!!

Candy... Oh My!

This Halloween, Emily couldn't decide on a costume so she decided to stay home and pass out candy instead. I have to tell you that at our house we pass out full sized-candy bars; one per person.

Yes, trick-or-treaters say we give out the 'good candy'.
It's a great way to know how many kids come to the house and how much candy to purchase for next year.

Hannah dressed as a 'bride' again and went to our church's "Trunk or Treat" event. She and her daddy left at 6:30pm.
Our first 'trick-or-treater' came at 6:45pm.

At 7:15pm we gave away 71 bars.

By 8:00pm we gave away 142 bars.

Hannah came back to the house along with two of Emily's classmates... in costume of course!
At the end of the evening (around 8:30pm), we gave away a total of 193 full sized candy bars!
And the girl's cousins came over for some partaking of their treats!

On another note, I made some costumes for the girl's favorite stuffed bears ... a starfish, pumpkin, tree, leaf and last but not least.. my least-favorite creature... a squirrel!
What you can do with some felt and a glue gun! Oh My!
