Biggest Little City in the World Revisited

During the winter break, we headed up for a snow vacation with some of my extended family: my sister, sister-in-law, my two cousins and their families.

We usually stay at the Grand Sierra Resort. They always have a great promotional deal before Christmas. Either a two night stay free.. no minimal stay requirements; or stay one night for $39 and get two nights free. We usually stay for three nights and pay less than $70 for the whole stay.

A pleasant surprise was meeting one of Hannah's classmate at the hotel. They were staying there also. We actually unexpectedly 'bumped' into a total of four families that were vacationing there.
Katelyn and Hannah stayed at the arcade until closing.
This December was the first for us that there wasn't snow. None whatsoever.  Zipo... Nada... No snow on the roads. It was such a smooth drive up that our cars didn't even get dirty.

This is what it looked like last year same time, same place.

Actually the resorts had man-made snow. We headed to Boreal to a snow park to play in for the afternoon.
My sister and me
Emily sledding...
Marissa sledding...
Hannah trying to make a snow angel.. the snow was too hard.
Marissa collecting pine cones.
Timothy did not like his gloves and played without them the whole time. Brave boy!
Zachy on a snow top.
My 'big man' Daniel with a very large snowball.
Joshua sans his snow gear heading to the lodge for lunch.
Timothy practicing his driving skills in the arcade at the lodge.
ONGOING CONTEST... remember I will enter your name with each comment you post on anything I've written through February 9 . Random winner will receive a prize!

To Be Continued...

My brother in South Lake Tahoe is really missing out on the snow this year. So are we. Emily has decided this is the year to switch from skiing to snowboarding. We just need the fluffy white stuff!!

Hi Kay, yes we are all patiently waiting for the snow to come especially my dear husband who is itching to go snowboarding. That's great that your Emily is trying snowboarding. Our Emily will stick to skiing since she only does it once a year. Hope your Emily got my Emily's letter. :)

Hey Nancy, you stayin' for awhile before heading back to school?

No snow in Yosemite this weekend either. Made it very easy to get up and back, plus all the roads were open too. Looks like there was enough snow to play in at least. :-) I've heard Vegas has great deals just before and during Christmas too. I had a few people go up and run into others too. Just such a small world. - Patrick

Sounds like it was fun despite the missing snow. Is the Grand Sierra a nice hotel? I've never been in there to check it out. - Oliver

Hi Oliver, so great to hear from you! Hope you, Winnie and the kids are doing well. Yes, the Grand Sierra is pretty nice and comfy for our family of 4. It's older so the furniture and bathrooms are dated but not unkempt. The rooms are pretty spacious, no microwave or fridge though unless you upgrade to the Summit section of the hotel. They have a spa, fitness gym, bowling alley, arcade, jungle gym, theater, ice cream, miniature golf, round table pizza, johnny rockets and starbucks in the hotel; outside of the hotel is go-cart racing and of course the Reno strip. Smoking is minimal in the casino so it's not like Las Vegas. One thing though is that when you go especially during a promotional period there are a ton of asians. Literally that's all you see.. it's kind of like you're in asia. Asians can't pass up a deal you know!

Oh...that probably explains my question on the Mt. Rose pick. Keep up the blogging...you are doing great.

We really enjoyed the trip-the kids especially loved playing together in the snow. They can't wait to go again! I think LW may be ready to try skiing soon. He rides LY's scooter already. Hope we can go together again in the future!
