My Bird Keeper

My daughter loves birds. Every day after school she goes straight into the backyard to check on her feeders. She rinses, cleans and scrubs her homemade water feeders (basically a tray and a pot) before she fills them with fresh water.

Then she proceeds to clean the bird residue 'aka poop' by spraying the ground with water and scrubbing it with the broom. Sometimes her sister comes out to help. She likes to spread out some seed for the birds to eat on the ground.

She has created a wonderful feeding place for some of the local birds to gather to eat. We have been seeing them come regularly and it's been a treat to hear them outside and see them eat out of her feeders.

At her green double feeder she has a house finch and...
... chestnut-backed chickadee.

In her handmade egg carton feeder she made with her BFFL, Rachel, some more chestnut-back chickadees eat from it and..
... on her finch sock. Boy, those chickadees sure eat a lot!
Here's some lesser gold finch on the finch sock...
And on the house, there is another chickadee. It was actually pecking against the plastic. We kept telling it that that's not the way to get to the seed but it didn't listen and kept on pecking.
On her blue feeder is a house finch.
On her black & red feeder, is another chickadee... it's color matches the feeder too.
This cute morning dove comes and eat the seed off the ground. These birds are not easily scared away like the finches and chickadees. They sit still if you don't bother them.
And here's a western scrub-jay drinking from the water bowl/pot. These are beautiful blue birds but they sure are noisy ones. It kind of crows instead of tweets.
And here's a house sparrow on her water tray.

Emily just celebrated her 11th birthday and received lots of wonderful bird related gifts. I will save that for a future post.
