A New Addition to Celebrate

One of my youngest cousins had his first baby this past April. Steven and Michele got married last year in San Diego. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding overlooking the ocean and wasted no time to start their family. On April 17, they had a healthy baby boy and named him Brendan David.

Family and friends celebrated with them at a Red Egg & Ginger Dinner generously hosted by my Aunt Brenda and Uncle David, Steven's parents.

Red eggs and ginger are important food items to honor a new life. Eggs symbolizes fertility and renewal of life. The color red represents happiness and good luck. Ginger is important because in the 'yin' (cold) and 'yang' (warm) balance of Chinese food, ginger adds a touch of 'hotness' to the nutritional needs of the new mother, who is tired and weak (too much yin) after childbirth.

We were thrilled to meet my newest member of our family!
