Well.. it's true! It's probably one of the easiest times to catch you off guard too. And it happened to my friend. This friend, a cute petite Asian gal, had just bought a new iPhone, and just like me, it is the most treasured item in her purse.
She was on BART going home from work. As she entered the not-so-busy train, she whipped out her phone to check her messages. Right as the doors opened at the next stop, BAM! A punk grabbed her brand spankin' new phone out of her hands and ran out of the train. What did my friend do?
(Well, I would have just stood there in shock, then start to cry, and then start to think about what I should have done to try to get the phone back but didn't because I'm a shy Asian gal).
My friend proceeded to run after the horrible thief and yelled to whomever could hear her that she was robbed and that guy has her phone! She continued to chase after him (you can tell she isn't 40 yet since she does keep up the pace with him) up the stairs to the main concourse. The thief then jumps the exit turnstiles, but like a good Asian gal, my friend pauses to use her BART pass to exit. She's yelling the whole time she's chasing after him, and by now she's attracted quite a bit of attention. Many potential good Samaritans were now helping chase after the thief. As he was exiting up towards the street, he threw her phone onto the ground not wanting to be caught with the goods in his hand. My very persistant friend was able to get her phone back without any cracks or scratches (just thief germs on it).
She was very fortunate, and courageous! How would you react if this happened to you?
Let's try not to ever have this happen.. be very cautious of your surroundings when you use your phone. Better to be safe than sorry. Nowadays we have too much private info on our phones, especially the iPhone, which my girls affectionately dub 'Mama's baby computer'.
